Mahabubnagar:
Vakiti Srihari, a Congress MLA from the BC (Backward Class) community, has won a surprising victory over Chittem Ram Mohan Reddy of the BRS party. Chittem Ram Mohan Reddy, a strong political figure in the region, comes from a family with a long political history. His father, Chittem Narsi Reddy, was a respected leader before he was killed in a Naxalite attack in 2005.
This victory is significant because it is the first time a BC candidate from the Congress party has won in a constituency dominated by the Reddy community for three decades. Srihari has a long political career, having served as a ZPTC from Makthal and as the District Congress Committee president from Narayanpet. Many were surprised when he received the Congress ticket to contest from the Makthal constituency, as he was the only BC candidate in a region typically dominated by Reddy leaders. Despite facing a strong opponent in Chittem Ram Mohan Reddy, Srihari managed to win the assembly elections.
With Srihari’s victory, the Congress party has managed to win all the assembly constituencies in the Mahabubnagar parliament region. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has highlighted Srihari’s victory and mentioned that he may be included in the cabinet under the BC quota and possibly given a Ministry post, as there is currently no minister from the Mahabubnagar region.
Vakiti Srihari comes from an agricultural family and is known for his honesty and humility, with no criminal cases against him. He has completed his graduation with a BA degree and has taken up agriculture as his profession.
As a newly elected MLA, Srihari faces the challenge of developing the Makthal assembly constituency. The region lacks major hospitals, professional educational institutions, and proper infrastructure like roads. Srihari aims to secure government funds to improve these facilities and overall development in the area.
Srihari is confident that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will soon announce several development projects for the constituency, which will help transform the Makthal region.
