Initially, Raj Gopal Reddy made a name for himself in the construction industry, building a successful business empire. With support from late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR), he entered politics. In 2009, he won the Bhongir parliamentary seat by a significant margin, but lost in the 2014 elections. Undeterred, he won an election for Member of Legislative Council (MLC) and served from 2016 to 2018.
In 2018, Raj Gopal Reddy resigned as MLC to run for MLA in the Munugodu constituency under the Congress party. He won with over 20,000 votes, but later resigned due to lack of funds for Munugodu’s development. He then joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but lost in the subsequent by-election.
In 2023, Raj Gopal Reddy returned to the Congress party with promises of a ministerial post. He won the election from Munugodu with over 50,000 votes, which also helped the Congress candidate in the Bhongir parliamentary elections. His focus is now on developing Munugodu comprehensively.
