Two new schemes, Mahalakshmi (cooking gas cylinder supply at Rs 500) and Gruha Jyoti (free power supply up to 200 units), were launched in Telangana on Tuesday. These schemes will start benefiting people from March.
Under the Gruha Jyoti scheme, power consumers using up to 200 units of power will receive zero bills. Beneficiaries of the scheme will get the gas subsidy amount through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initially.
The Chief Minister, along with Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, officially launched the two schemes in the secretariat. The launch was kept low-key due to the MLC election in Mahbubnagar local bodies constituency.
The Chief Minister mentioned that his government is working towards creating the “Telangana Model” that could be adopted by other states in the future. Despite facing financial challenges, he assured that all promises made during the Assembly elections are being fulfilled while maintaining strict fiscal discipline.
The Modi government increased the cost of gas cylinders to Rs 1,000, but the state government is providing them at Rs 500 under the Mahalakshmi scheme. The subsidy amount will be given to consumers through DBT, benefiting 40 lakh families who hold white ration cards. Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka urged electricity consumers to take advantage of the free power supply up to 200 units and advised them not to believe false claims on social media.
