The city is getting ready for Ganesh Chathurthi, a ten-day festival filled with celebrations. Everywhere in the city, there will be pandals showcasing different Ganesh idols. This year, like every year, there will be thousands of Ganesh idols displayed across the city. The organizers of these pandals are competing with each other to make their installations the most attractive. However, there are concerns about the use of hazardous materials in making these idols. The government and GHMC are making efforts to promote the use of eco-friendly Ganesh idols.
In different parts of the city, there are hundreds of idol makers busy creating colorful idols. Dhoolpet is especially known for its idol-making industry, and traditional idol-makers there have received orders from various parts of the State. Despite reports about the hazards of using POP idols, these idols are still popular because they look sleek and eye-catching.
