The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi has clarified that Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on September 18 this year. There was confusion among the pandal organisers and devotees as the tithi fell on both September 18 and 19. The priests of Sri Sringeri Kanchi Peetadhipathi suggested celebrating Vinayaka Chaturthi on September 18, and after seeking clarification from scholars, the Samithi concluded that the festival will start on September 18. The Samithi leaders have requested the State government to declare a holiday on that day and also on September 28 for Ganesh idol immersion on Anant Chaturdashi. They have also met with city police officials to discuss arrangements for the peaceful conduct of the 10-day festival in the city. The Samithi leaders have stated that organisers only need to give intimation, not seek permission, for setting up the pandal.
