A couple was killed in Berhampur, Gajapati district on Monday night. The victims, Kapilendra Malik and his wife Sasita, were suspected of practicing black magic. The police have detained 16 individuals for interrogation.
The police arrived at the scene on Tuesday morning and recovered the bodies. Initial investigations suggest that the couple was murdered by villagers who believed they were practicing witchcraft. The police have confiscated two knives and an axe from Kapilendra’s house, which were used in the crime.
According to sources, the attackers entered Kapilendra’s house in Tala Sahi and assaulted him with weapons at around 8 pm on Monday. Kapilendra died on the spot, while his wife initially tried to save him but eventually fled. Her body was later found on the road, covered in blood.
