Gadwal MLA's Party Switch Triggers Controversy: Betrayal or Smart Move?

Gadwal MLA Caught in Political Controversy

Gadwal MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, who was elected on a BRS ticket, is now at the center of a major political controversy. Initially, he announced that he was switching parties for the development of Gadwal. He even organized his own supporters to submit petitions in favor of his move. Later, he attended meetings with Congress ministers and participated in the CLP (Congress Legislature Party) meetings.

However, with the Supreme Court close to delivering its verdict on the anti-defection case, Krishna Mohan Reddy’s actions have left voters confused. His shifting political stance has raised serious concerns among the people of Gadwal.

Anti-Defection Law and Public Reaction

The 52nd Constitutional Amendment Act of 1985 states that any elected representative who switches parties can be disqualified under the anti-defection law. Many political observers believe that Krishna Mohan Reddy is using loopholes in the system to maintain his position while preventing new BC leaders from emerging in the region.

Intellectuals and democratic activists have criticized his actions, calling them a serious threat to democracy. They argue that such political behavior damages public trust in elected representatives.

Demand for Resignation and By-Elections

Poet and writer Avaneshree has demanded that Krishna Mohan Reddy’s MLA position be canceled immediately. He urged both the Congress and BRS parties to take strong action against him. He also called for a by-election in Gadwal to respect the people’s mandate.

Several student union leaders, including Jammichedu Karthik, Harish, Naganna, Halim Pasha, and Vaman Palli Rangaswami, staged a protest against Krishna Mohan Reddy. They condemned his political moves, which they believe betray the voters.

BRS Leader Calls for MLA’s Suspension

BRS leader Bandari Sunand held a press conference in Jogulamba Gadwal, where he strongly criticized Krishna Mohan Reddy. He questioned how the MLA could justify his actions to voters who had elected him under the BRS banner.

“Changing parties for personal gain has become a trend, but do you even understand the difference between party ideology and personal ambition?” Sunand asked.

He also pointed out that for the past eight months, Krishna Mohan Reddy has been actively participating in Congress-led government programs and meetings. Sunand accused him of misleading the people who trusted him and engaging in self-serving politics.

BRS Stands Firm Against Defectors

Bandari Sunand made it clear that BRS founder KCR and working president KTR have decided not to allow defected MLAs to return to the party. He predicted that by-elections in at least ten constituencies, including Gadwal, were unavoidable.

“MLAs who defected cannot come back to BRS. The people of Gadwal will re-elect BRS, and Krishna Mohan Reddy will have no place in the party,” he stated firmly.

Legal Battle and Uncertain Future

The Supreme Court is now in the final stages of its decision on the anti-defection case. If the court rules against Krishna Mohan Reddy, he may be disqualified, leading to fresh elections in Gadwal.

The controversy has sparked intense political debate, with BRS leaders demanding his immediate suspension. Whether Congress will officially accept him or distance itself remains unclear. What is certain, however, is that the voters of Gadwal are watching closely, and their patience is running out.

As the political drama unfolds, all eyes are on the Supreme Court’s decision and Krishna Mohan Reddy’s next move. Will he resign and seek a fresh mandate from the people, or will he continue his balancing act? The future of Gadwal’s leadership remains uncertain.
