Gadwal District Focuses on Boosting Exports and Local Economy

Gadwal District Collector B.M. Santosh has pledged to provide all necessary facilities to improve the export of Gadwal sarees, agricultural produce, and other local products. Speaking at the District Export Promotion Committee meeting held at the Collectorate Conference Hall on Friday, he emphasized the importance of strengthening the local economy and turning Gadwal into an export hub.

The Collector directed officials to gather and analyze data on exportable products from the district. He asked them to collaborate with relevant associations and submit a detailed report. Gadwal sarees, cotton, groundnut, mangoes, and rice were identified as the district’s major products, with efforts to expand their export potential being highlighted as a priority.

To support this goal, the Collector stressed the need to raise awareness about export opportunities and resolve challenges faced by industry associations. He instructed officials to assist handloom weavers in obtaining an Import-Export Code (IEC) for trading. Additionally, he proposed participation in national exhibitions to promote Gadwal sarees and suggested setting up a common facility center in the district, addressing any land-related concerns in the process.

Addressing another key issue, the Collector directed officials to find solutions to the problems faced by rice millers. To streamline these efforts, the General Manager of Industries was appointed as the nodal officer, tasked with providing continuous updates and organizing awareness programs. Alongside increasing production, the focus will also be on expanding both local and international markets.

Regarding industrial development, the Collector highlighted the importance of timely approvals under the TS-iPASS scheme for setting up new industries. He also mentioned subsidy provisions under the T-FRIED scheme, where female beneficiaries can receive a 45% subsidy and male beneficiaries are eligible for a 35% subsidy. For SC/ST applicants, subsidies will be granted for up to 25 units.

This initiative signifies a major step toward economic development in Gadwal. By focusing on exports and industrial growth, the plan aims to create employment opportunities, increase farmers’ income, and place Gadwal on the global trade map. The emphasis on IEC registration for handloom weavers and participation in exhibitions could further enhance the visibility and market potential of Gadwal sarees.

The proposed common facility center shows a structured approach to streamlining export processes. Additionally, appointing a nodal officer and ensuring coordination among various departments aims to ensure smooth implementation of these initiatives.

Overall, the Collector’s vision, which includes industrial approvals under TS-iPASS and subsidy support through T-FRIED, demonstrates a commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and investment. If executed effectively, this initiative has the potential to transform Gadwal into a thriving export hub.
