Gaddam Prasad Kumar, a legislator from the Vikarabad constituency, is likely to be elected as the new Speaker of the Telangana Assembly. He is confident about managing the Assembly proceedings and ensuring fairness for all members. In an interview with The Hans India, Prasad Kumar expressed his commitment to upholding democratic values within the Assembly. He mentioned that it has been almost a decade since a Congress representative held this position in Telangana.
Prasad Kumar expressed his gratitude to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and the Chief Minister for selecting him for this important role. He assured that he would not disappoint the leadership and would maintain order and smooth proceedings in the Assembly. As a Dalit leader and MLA from Vikarabad, Prasad Kumar emphasized that he would be the only Speaker from the SC community after Prathiba Bharathi in 1999-2004.
Despite concerns that holding the Speaker position could lead to subsequent election losses, Prasad Kumar pointed out that BRS triumphed in the recent polls, proving such beliefs to be baseless. He highlighted his own victory in the Vikarabad seat after losing twice before.
Overall, Prasad Kumar is optimistic about his new role and is determined to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to him by the Congress party. He aims to ensure that all voices are heard and respected in the Assembly.
