Speculations are circulating that the Indian government is considering selling off shares in oil companies to global private companies. This has led to concerns among petroleum dealers, who have been asking for higher commissions. The Telangana Petroleum Dealers’ Association has decided to go on strike in response to this issue, which is not unique to their state but affecting dealers nationwide.
The association believes that the disinvestment process has already started, particularly with Bharat Petroleum. They fear that after the general elections, the government may hand over stakes to private companies. Dealers argue that if their demands are not met, public sector oil companies could become weaker and eventually be sold to private entities.
The dealers also claim that Public Sector Undertakings are in favor of disinvestment and that the petroleum ministry is not listening to their concerns. As a result, they are considering going on strike to pressure the government to address their grievances and secure their future.
