Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina praised Mumbai Indians’ Akash Madhwal for his impressive figures of 5/5 against Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League 2023 Eliminator. Madhwal, a 29-year-old engineer-turned-cricketer, picked up his maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket and equalled the record of legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble for the most economical spell in IPL history. Raina credited Mumbai Indians’ support staff for showing faith in the youngster, calling his performance “sensational.” Madhwal has played seven matches for the five-time champions, taking 13 wickets with an average of 12.85.
Madhwal showed tremendous grit and confidence in getting the job done for Mumbai Indians and captain Rohit Sharma, despite the absence of Jofra Archer, Jasprit Bumrah, and Jhye Richardson. Madhwal himself has said that he does not want to be called Bumrah’s replacement and wants to create a name for himself. The Mumbai Indians will play the defending champion Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, and the winner of that match will play Chennai Super Kings in the final on Sunday.
