    Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar announced on Friday that the flood level of Munneru river in Khammam was decreasing and the situation was under control. The river experienced an extraordinary flooding with a record of five lakh cusecs. Minister Ajay Kumar expressed his gratitude to the district officers and workers who handled the flood situation and mentioned that the river’s flood level had never surpassed 30 feet in history.

    Accompanied by MLA K Upender Reddy and BRS district president MLC Tata Madhusudhan, Minister Ajay Kumar informed the media that 2,095 people affected by the flood were relocated from 665 residences in the low-lying areas of Munneru catchment area to relief centers. The State government set up four relief camps in Khammam, and the NDRF teams rescued 78 individuals from various colonies in the city.

    Minister Ajay Kumar expressed his appreciation to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for immediately dispatching NDRF personnel upon request. He mentioned that 485 people were relocated in Wyra, Kusumanchi, Nelakondapally, and Khammam rural mandals. The NDRF crew had to change their original destination from Kothagudem to Khammam, and they arrived when it was already getting dark. Despite the challenging conditions, the NDRF teams successfully saved everyone, including infants and senior citizens. The minister also expressed his regret over the loss of P Sathish, who disregarded officials’ warnings and was swept away in the floodwaters at Naidupet on Thursday.

    Minister Ajay Kumar assured that sanitation efforts would start promptly in the affected areas as the floodwaters receded. The government would also take decisive measures to prevent the spread of viral fevers. District Collector VP Gautham, Commissioner of Police Vishnu S Warrier, SUDA chairman B Vijay Kumar, Mayor P Neeraja, and Municipal Commissioner Adarsh Surabhi were present during the announcement.
