In response to the frequent fire accidents happening in Greater Hyderabad, the GHMC Director (EV&DM) has started organizing awareness programs and emergency evacuation drills. These drills are being conducted by the DRF teams in all six zones of GHMC to teach people how to respond and escape during emergencies.
The DRF teams are conducting “Emergency Evacuation Drills” at high-risk locations such as schools, hospitals, shopping malls, office buildings, hotels, and banquet halls. These places attract large crowds, making it important to prepare them for emergencies. As part of the mock drills, the teams recently conducted evacuation drills at five locations, including Chennai Shopping Mall in Mehdipatnam, Mantra Mall Attapur in Rajendra Nagar, D-Mart Supermarket in Kachiguda, Unlimited Mall in Habsiguda, Pantaloons retail shop, and Mediplus Diagnostics Mixed Occupancy Building in Pet Basheerabad. The Station Fire Officer (SFO) supervises these drills and teaches participants how to escape from fires, evacuate buildings, operate firefighting equipment, administer first aid and CPR, and be aware of what to do and what not to do during emergencies.
Since January 25, the DRF teams have also conducted 35 awareness programs at various public places, shopping malls/showrooms, schools/colleges, hospitals, and a theater.
If any building owners or management of establishments like schools, hospitals, or shopping malls want to conduct an evacuation drill in their premises, they can contact the helpline numbers provided. They can also report any unauthorized/illegal storage of hazardous chemicals/materials in residential buildings while keeping their identity confidential.
