Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar stated on Sunday that the country will provide its upcoming budget details to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This is in order to unlock the $1.1 billion funding that has been held up since November 2022. The funding is part of the $6.5 billion rescue package agreed in 2019.
The IMF and Pakistan held two weeks of talks in February in Islamabad to conclude the 9th review, but the lender has not yet released the funds. The money is critical for the South Asian nation to unlock other bilateral and multilateral financing.
Dar said he would like the IMF to release the funds before the budget is presented in early June. He added that it would be unfair to do the 9th and 10th review together.
