Hyderabad Hosts International Kite and Sweet Festival

The Tourism Minister, alongside BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, took part in the event and extended Sankranti greetings to Telugu people worldwide. Minister Krishna Rao emphasized the significance of kite flying during the Sankranti festival, calling it a tradition that spans centuries. He expressed pride that Hyderabad is hosting this international event, while also raising concerns about the erosion of culture and traditions over time.

The minister pointed out that today’s youth have shifted away from outdoor activities and are increasingly glued to online games, mobile phones, and social media. He stressed the government’s efforts in reviving culture and preserving traditional lifestyles. “Our government is working to promote unity and cultural richness in society,” said Rao, urging people to support the tourism campaign ‘Telangana Zaroor Aana’ by visiting the state’s tourist destinations at least once a month.

BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar added that the government aims to make Hyderabad a major tourism hub. He encouraged women to take advantage of free travel on RTC buses to visit and enjoy the Kite and Sweet Festival at Parade Grounds.

The festival has drawn participation from 47 international kite flyers representing 19 countries, including Indonesia, Sweden, Australia, Sri Lanka, Canada, and France, among others. Additionally, 60 national kite club members from 14 Indian states are also part of the vibrant event.
