Hyderabad: Telangana’s new “Family Digital Card” project, part of the “One State, One Card” policy, was officially launched by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday. The project aims to identify families across the state and ensure that each person is correctly linked to their family.
The pilot project is being carried out in all 119 constituencies, starting with one village and one municipality ward in each. Eventually, the initiative will be expanded across the entire state. In this new system, the woman in the family will be listed as the Head of the Family (HoF). The goal is to ensure that every family is recognized as a single unit and that individuals are part of only one family. Every family, regardless of their economic status, will receive a Family ID, and each family member will also have a unique individual ID.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasized that the Family Digital Card will help people access various welfare schemes. He criticized the previous government, led by KCR, for not responding to people’s demands for ration cards over the last 10 years. “Our government has decided to issue ration cards to all those in need. We studied policies in other states and created a new policy for Telangana,” the Chief Minister said during the launch event.
All details of welfare schemes from various government departments will be saved on the Family Digital Card. The government plans to include information from 30 different departments on the card, accessible with a single click. “We have already announced the ‘One State, One Card’ policy, which will ensure that all eligible people receive the benefits of welfare schemes,” the CM explained.
The Family Digital Card will act as a protective shield for every family. It will provide access to benefits from schemes like Ration, Arogyasri (health services), and Fee Reimbursement, among others. Additionally, the health profiles of family members will be stored on the card to support the poor. “The pilot project will help us identify challenges in issuing the cards, and we will work to solve any problems that arise,” said the Chief Minister.
To oversee the process, the government has appointed an RDO-level officer as a monitoring officer for each constituency. Revanth Reddy also criticized the previous government for creating a heavy debt burden and causing a financial crisis in the state. “Our government is taking steps to fix the mistakes made by the previous administration,” he added.
