Scores of families in Rajendra Nagar held a sit-in protest at Budwel on Wednesday, claiming that land grabbers with political support had forcefully displaced them from their land. Over a hundred families gathered at Orijitha Projects in the Manasa Hills area to raise their voices against forced displacement. They accused a highly influential political leader of being involved in the illegal activities, despite their case being sub judice in court.
The families alleged that the land grabbers, backed by the ruling party’s high-ranking political leader, had encroached upon a large portion of their land using fraudulent documents. Syed Hidayatullah Shafi, the President of Happy Homes Sagar Hills Owner Association, claimed ownership of the land in Budwel Village.
Ahmed Sarfaraz Siddique, the General Secretary of the Association, explained that nearly 200 families had been fighting a legal battle since 2015 after being displaced from their land. He stated that the land grabbers had demolished their houses without considering the ongoing court case.
The protesters accused the land grabbers of having the support of a highly influential political family, allowing them to bypass legal procedures and build villas under the name of Oorjita Projects. They claimed that these villas were then sold to unsuspecting buyers.
The protest took place at the gate of Oorjita Projects at Manasa Hills, with women and children participating alongside other protesters. However, no representative from Oorjita Projects responded to the allegations.
In response to the protesters’ threats to bring attention to the ruling party’s involvement, the police intervened and took the protesters into custody. They were then transferred to Rajendra Nagar police station.
