Fair and Transparent Lottery Conducted for Allocation of Retail Liquor Shops in Rangareddy District

Rangareddy district recently used a lottery system to allocate retail liquor shops for the years 2023-2025. District collector Harish supervised the lucky draw, which was attended by officials from various departments. The allocation process was carefully recorded to ensure accountability.

To promote representation, reservations were implemented according to the government’s excise policy. This meant that 15% of the shops were allocated to the Gowda caste, 10% to SCs, and 5% to STs.

Out of the 234 liquor shops in Rangareddy, the lucky draw resulted in the allocation of 2 shops for STs, 11 shops for SCs in Sarur Nagar division, 25 shops for Gowda social groups, 6 shops for SCs in Shamshabad division, and 9 shops for Gowda social groups. No shops were allocated to STs in Shamshabad due to their absence.

District collector Harish emphasized the strict adherence to government and excise commissioner guidelines during the allocation process. In total, 53 liquor shops were allotted to STs, SCs, and Gowda categories, while the remaining 181 shops fall under the general category.

Officials present at the event included Sarur Nagar excise superintendent T Ravinder Rao, Shamshabad assistant excise superintendent K Srinivas Rao, social welfare department officer Rama Rao, district assistant BC development officer Neeraja Reddy, and district tribal development officer Rameshwari.
