The Nari Shakti bill, which aims to give power to women, cannot be implemented until 2029. The BRS party is now focusing on making it an important issue for the upcoming elections. BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao discussed the bill with legal experts and senior leaders, believing that it may not be implemented for another decade. The first challenge is to conduct a fresh census and complete the delimitation process, which will only happen in 2026. There is no specified time frame for the implementation of the bill even after these processes are completed.
Although the aims and objectives of the women reservation bill are welcomed, KCR believes that its execution will remain a distant dream. The BRS party has been a strong supporter of the bill, with KCR previously writing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the state Assembly adopting a resolution in favor of women’s quota.
BRS senior leader B Vinod Kumar pointed out that previous acts of Parliament stated that the delimitation of assembly segments would only be taken up after 2026. The schedule for conducting the census has not yet been announced by the Centre. The lengthy process of completing the census and delimitation will further delay the implementation of reservation for women.
