India’s Covid cases are expected to keep rising for the next 10-12 days and then start to decrease. Hospitalizations are low and expected to stay that way. The rise in cases is due to a sub variant of Omicron called XBB.1.16, but it is not more severe than other variants. Maharashtra has reported the highest number of Covid-related deaths in the latest surge. India has recorded 7,830 new coronavirus infections in one day, the highest in 223 days, but the recovery rate is high and vaccines are being administered. The Serum Institute of India has restarted manufacturing the Covishield vaccine and has booster doses available.
Expect Covid cases to decrease within 10-12 days.
