    The State excise department in Hyderabad is getting ready to enforce strict measures to stop the supply of illegal alcohol and control alcohol sales on prohibited days. These measures were decided upon after a meeting held by the Election Commission of India on October 5. So far, the department has seized 157.39 kg of ganja, 1 Mahindra Supro vehicle, and 1 Honda Shine vehicle. Two people were taken into custody in Nizamabad on October 6. On the same day, the department recovered 90.200 kg of dry ganja, a car with a fake police board, and a 2-wheeler, and arrested 6 people in Bhadradri Kothagudem.

    To prevent illegal activities, the following steps have been taken: 29,663 suspicious persons and accused persons have been bound, 8,362 history sheeters are under surveillance, the PD Act has been invoked against 14 individuals, meetings have been held at interstate borders, non-bailable warrants have been executed, liquor sales are being closely monitored, sensitive shops are being identified, illegal storage and distribution of liquor is being prevented, coupon sales are being stopped, and joint raids are being conducted with neighboring states.

    Special measures have been taken in view of the elections, including 21 permanent excise check posts along state borders equipped with CCTV cameras, integration with a command control center at the head office, 89 integrated check posts in coordination with police and other enforcement agencies, 4 border mobile patrolling parties, 13 special teams to check trains from different routes, intensive checks at bus stations, railway stations, and airports.

    So far, the department has seized 14,227 liters of ID liquor, 1710 kgs of Jaggery, 98.4 liters of liquor, 170 kgs of Ganja, and 21 vehicles worth rupees 1.14 crores.
