Emiliano Martinez, the goalkeeper for Argentina’s World Cup-winning team, is going to Kolkata, India in July. He will be visiting the club tent of Indian Super League champions Mohun Bagan on July 4th. Sports promoter Satadru Dutta invited Martinez to Kolkata just a few months after Argentina won the World Cup. Dutta has previously brought Diego Maradona, Pele, Cafu and Dunga to the city.
Kolkata has a large fanbase for Argentina’s football team. Fans who have seen Maradona and Messi before will now cheer on Martinez, who helped Argentina win the World Cup after a 36-year gap. Martinez will give a tribute to Maradona at Kolkata’s Lake Town in a Maradona Memorial event on July 5th. He will also attend the finals of All Bengal Tie-breaker contest “Pache Pach” at Sribhumi Sporting Ground and spend time with underprivileged kids. He will conduct a master class session at Santosh Mitra Square ground, Lebutala on the same date.
During his two-day tour, Martinez will pay a visit to the Honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, and meet Indian cricket great Sourav Ganguly as well. He is also expected to visit a few sponsor events.
