Hyderabad: The ESIC Super Specialty Hospital in Sanathnagar has achieved a major milestone in medical science and organ transplantation. On Tuesday, the hospital successfully conducted its first in-house cadaver (deceased patient) organ retrieval. This marks a significant advancement in the hospital’s medical services and its commitment to saving lives.
A 45-year-old male patient was declared brain dead at the ESIC hospital. The neurosurgery team, led by Dr. Samson, counseled the patient’s family about organ donation. After receiving their consent, the organs were allotted by ‘Jeevan Daan’ to ESIC.
One of the kidneys was given to a 50-year-old female patient, who had been on dialysis for the last four years. The liver and another kidney were sent to Osmania General Hospital, where they saved the lives of two more recipients.
The organs were harvested by Dr. Madhu, Dr. Sandeep, and their teams. The transplant surgery at ESIC hospital was performed by Dr. Jagdeeshwar and Dr. Pandu Ranga Rao, the chief transplant surgeons. The anesthesia team was headed by Dr. Nagarjuna, and the nephrology team was led by Dr. Dhanalaxmi.
This successful procedure opens a new avenue for ESIC to receive more organs from Jeevan Daan. This means more patients can receive transplanted organs and lead healthy, active lives. This ground-breaking procedure shows the hospital’s dedication to promoting organ donation and its ability to perform complex medical procedures at the highest standards.
