The Telangana High Court has stopped the government from allowing a committee to put up a statue of N T Rama Rao in Lakaram Lake in Khammam town. The court made this decision after receiving a petition from several groups who objected to the statue being erected. The statue was supposed to be unveiled on May 28th, which would have been NTR’s 100th birthday. The court said that the state cannot put up the statue in a tourist spot.
The petitioners argued that the government’s orders to allow the statue to be installed go against the Supreme Court’s orders and a circular issued by the Telangana government in 2016, which prohibits statues from being installed in public places.
