The Gaddar Film Awards will now consider movies released since the formation of Telangana State. In addition to the already announced award categories, a special award will be given to the best film of each year, starting from 2013.
According to the Telangana Film Development Corporation, the previous government had not given film awards since 2013. To make up for this, the new government has decided to recognize the best film from each of those years. Applications for these awards will be accepted starting from March 13.
The Gaddar Awards will replace the Nandi Awards, which were previously given in Unified Andhra Pradesh. From 2025, these awards will be presented every year on Ugadi. The government has finalized the process for selecting and distributing the awards.
For 2024, the Gaddar Awards will honor films in several categories, including Best Feature Film, Children’s Film, National Integration Film, Environmental Film, and Historical Heritage Film. To support new filmmakers, awards and cash prizes will be given for first feature films, social impact films, documentary films, short films, and animation films. Additionally, recognition will be given to film journalists who have written books and analytical articles on Telugu cinema, said Telangana Film Development Corporation Chairman Dil Raju.
