Energy Officials Work to Ensure Uninterrupted Power Supply in Hyderabad This Summer

The Principal Secretary of the Energy Department, Sandeep Kumar Sultania, has asked electricity officials to make sure there are no power supply issues during the summer. He gave these instructions to TGTRANSCO and TGSPDCL officials.

To prepare for the rising electricity demand, Sultania held a meeting at Vidyut Soudha. He was joined by Musharraf Faruqui, the Chairman and Managing Director of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited, along with other electricity officials. They discussed the steps taken by TRANSCO and TGSPDCL to handle power needs in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area.

In some parts of Greater Hyderabad, electricity demand has been growing more than 30% every year. Based on last summer’s experience, TRANSCO has improved power transformer capacity at several substations, including those in Bowrampet, Patancheru, RC Puram, Moula-Ali, Bandlaguda, Gachibowli, Kaithalapur, and Bollaram. Officials believe these upgrades will help prevent power supply issues, even if demand rises sharply.

Last year, the highest electricity demand in GHMC reached 4,352 MW. This year, due to the city’s growth and increasing residential and industrial power usage, demand is expected to go beyond 5,000 MW. To handle this, additional power transformers (PTRs), distribution transformers (DTRs), and new feeders have been installed. Officials are also monitoring the performance of about 5,062 11 KV feeders through the Feeder Outage Management System. Other technical measures are being used to ensure a smooth power supply up to the DTR level.
