Novak Djokovic, the world’s number one tennis player, can now compete in the US Open as the vaccination mandate for international travelers will end. This is good news for Djokovic who missed several tournaments including the US Open because he wasn’t vaccinated.
The United States government announced that Covid-19 vaccination requirements for international travelers will end on May 11, 2023, which means Djokovic will be able to enter the country to play in the US Open.
Djokovic had previously requested special permission to enter the United States despite being unvaccinated, but he was denied entry and had to withdraw from Indian Wells and Miami Open tournaments earlier this year.
Last year, Djokovic was deported from Australia because of his vaccination status and missed the Australian Open. However, he was permitted to travel to Melbourne in January 2023 and won a record-extending 10th Australian Open title.
