Restoration works will soon begin in the Golden Threshold as the architect for the project has been appointed. This project aims to transform the heritage structure into a remarkable architectural and cultural hub.
The Golden Threshold complex houses three distinct architectural gems: the Golden Threshold structure, Gopal Clinic, and the Centre for Distance Learning. These structures have witnessed the history of this historic site but have deteriorated over time. Restoring them requires the expertise of archaeologists and conservation specialists to preserve their rich heritage.
The Golden Threshold holds significant historical and cultural value in Hyderabad. It serves as a symbol of history, nationalism, and the nation’s cultural heritage. In 2019, Rajkumari Indira Devi Hall was inaugurated in the building, marking a milestone in the university’s journey towards academic excellence.
Anuradha Reddy, Convenor of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Hyderabad, mentioned that they have provided inspection reports and guidance for the restoration project.
The Golden Threshold represents the diverse cultures that define India and reminds us of our shared history and aspirations. It inspires generations to strive for greatness.
Dr. Devesh Nigam, Registrar of the University of Hyderabad (UoH), shared that UoH has taken steps to restore the building according to heritage building norms. An architect has been appointed for the project. The restoration work has faced delays due to strict specifications to retain the original structure without causing damage.
A committee has been formed to oversee the progress of the restoration work, and entry into the building is currently restricted.
