In a review meeting at the Collectorate, attended by SP D Janaki and other district officials, the Collector called for better coordination between departments to tackle the issue of accidents. She instructed authorities to identify accident-prone areas, also known as black spots, and implement safety measures to address these risks.

The Collector specifically directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and police to take action along NH-44. She ordered the installation of speed control systems, improved lighting, and placement of rumble strips in accident-prone areas, including Peddammapally, Rajapur, Ranga Reddy Gudem, Mansoor Dhaba, and Addakula Hatcheries. These measures must be completed by February 5. Temporary repairs on the Mudireddypally-SEZ service road and improved lighting at Ketepally were also instructed. At the Balanagar Underpass, where construction is ongoing, security personnel and warning signs will be stationed to guide motorists.

Starting February 1, the district administration has decided that two-wheeler riders without helmets will not be allowed entry into the District Collector’s office or other government offices. This step aims to promote helmet usage and enhance safety for motorcyclists.

SP Janaki highlighted an increase in road accidents in 2024 compared to the previous year. She stressed the importance of an immediate response from police, Roads and Buildings (R&B), transport officials, and NHAI after any accident. Quick assessments of accident sites and the implementation of safety improvements were identified as critical steps to prevent further incidents.

The district administration hopes these measures will significantly reduce accidents and save lives in Mahabubnagar.
