The Telangana School Education Department has announced that all CBSE, ICSE, IB, and other board-affiliated schools in the state must follow the Telugu language curriculum from the next academic year.
This decision was made after a proposal from the Director of School Education, Telangana, and has now been approved by the government. Starting in the 2025-26 academic year, Class IX students will study ‘Vennela’ (Simple Telugu) instead of ‘Singidi’ (Standard Telugu). This change will also apply to Class X students from 2026-27.
Previously, the government had already made Telugu a compulsory subject for students from Class I to X, regardless of which board the school is affiliated with.
Schools that fail to follow this rule, which has been in effect since the 2022-23 academic year, will face strict action. The Telangana government has stated that any violations will be taken seriously, and necessary steps will be taken according to the Act and guidelines.
