Telangana’s Development Highlighted in Economic Survey 2024-25
The Union Government released the Economic Survey 2024-25 on Friday, which highlighted Telangana’s progress under the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) rule. The findings countered criticisms from the Congress-led state government regarding past governance.
BRS leaders welcomed the survey results, emphasizing that Telangana has excelled in key economic and infrastructure areas. Former minister T. Harish Rao pointed out that Telangana achieved an impressive 88% in the State’s Own Tax Revenue (SoTR), the highest among 18 large states. He also noted that the survey confirmed 100% rural drinking water supply under the Mission Bhagiratha project, refuting claims that the initiative was ineffective.
The survey also recognized Telangana’s rapid growth in the IT sector, ranking the state alongside Karnataka at the top. Additionally, Telangana was placed fourth in the country for irrigated area, underscoring the success of the Kaleshwaram Project. Women empowerment programs like We-Hub, which promote entrepreneurship among women, were also praised in the report.
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao highlighted the state’s strong performance in services, per capita income, and investments in IT, startups, and fintech. He stated that despite receiving limited support from the central government, Telangana has emerged as an economic powerhouse under the BRS administration.
The Economic Survey’s findings validate several initiatives launched by the BRS government. The party views the report as an endorsement of its governance model and a response to criticisms from the Congress-led state government.
