Hyderabad: A new program called the ‘Seed Ganesha’ initiative has been launched to encourage the use of eco-friendly idols during the festive season. This program promotes Ganesha idols that contain seeds inside them. After performing the puja, the idols can be placed in the soil or a large pot. In a few days, the seeds will sprout and grow into small plants.

Once the plants reach a certain size, they can be transferred and planted in places like apartment complexes, backyards, or parks. The Green India Challenge (GIC) emphasized this idea as a way to contribute to a greener environment.

J Santhosh Kumar, the head of Green India and a former Member of Parliament, spoke about the importance of planting trees and caring for them. He mentioned that with increasing environmental pollution, it is crucial to grow more trees and nurture them constantly. The program plans to include seeds from plants with medicinal and therapeutic properties in future Ganesha idols.

Santhosh Kumar also urged the public to avoid using chemically painted Ganesha idols, as they can harm the environment and pollute water. Instead, he encouraged people to choose idols made from natural materials like mud or pure clay. The initiative will continue every year during Vinayaka Chavithi, he added.
