During a budget session in Parliament on Friday, he spoke about the need for better infrastructure as urban populations grow rapidly. He pointed out that state governments are struggling to meet these demands and urged the Centre to allocate substantial funds under the Smart Cities Mission and AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) programs.

Eatala highlighted the urgent needs of his Malkajgiri constituency, which has become a major urban hub with people migrating from different cities and states. The increasing population has put immense pressure on the existing infrastructure, making it difficult for local authorities to provide essential services. He called on the Jal Shakti Ministry to allocate special funds for sanitation projects and clean drinking water facilities.

Speaking about environmental concerns, he noted that Hyderabad, once known as the “City of Lakes,” is facing a severe crisis due to pollution. Many lakes, including Hussain Sagar, have become contaminated with sewage, harming aquatic life and biodiversity. He explained that polluted water seeps into the ground, leading to waterborne diseases and air pollution.

To address this issue, Eatala urged the ministry to fund projects for cleaning and restoring lakes, diverting sewage, and improving sewage treatment infrastructure. He emphasized the need to strengthen Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to ensure that only treated water enters the lakes. Additionally, he suggested modern sewage management systems to prevent untreated sewage from polluting water bodies.

The MP also raised concerns about the Musi River, which has been severely affected by industrial waste and chemical pollution. He explained that the river was once a vital resource for the region but has now become a health hazard due to toxic waste and untreated sewage. The pollution has made the river unusable and contaminated groundwater, posing serious risks to public health.

Eatala urged the government to take immediate action to tackle these environmental challenges and ensure safe and clean water for the people of Hyderabad.
