Drugs Worth Rs 1 Crore Seized in Patancheru
Hyderabad: The Anti-Narcotics Bureau, in collaboration with Patancheru police, seized drugs valued at around Rs 1 crore on Saturday. During the operation, one kilogram of MDMA was confiscated, and two suspects were arrested. The police acted on credible information about drug sales being planned ahead of New Year celebrations.
Initial investigations have revealed that drug suppliers are adopting new methods to expand their operations in Hyderabad. With the festive season approaching, drugs smuggled from Mumbai, Goa, and Bengaluru are being routed into the city. Peddlers are targeting Hyderabad to sell these drugs for substantial profits.
One of the arrested suspects was found targeting members of the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) community. Police suspect that drug peddlers are exploiting stereotypes to avoid detection and using innovative distribution strategies. By forming connections within specific social groups, peddlers aim to embed themselves and expand their network.
Drug transactions are also reported to occur at pubs, bars, and event venues, where peddlers establish direct links with potential customers. These interactions often spread through introductions and social networks, facilitating the wider sale of narcotics. With New Year celebrations just days away, law enforcement agencies across the country are stepping up vigilance to counter the anticipated rise in drug demand.
The police noted that LGBTQ-specific parties are often hotspots for drug use, making them a prime target for peddlers. Drug suppliers from cities like Mumbai, Goa, and Bengaluru are reportedly partnering with local networks in Hyderabad to implement new strategies for distribution.
In a recent case, Nampally police arrested a man named Ameer, who was allegedly attempting to sell MDMA smuggled from Mumbai to members of the LGBTQ community in Hyderabad. Authorities believe this arrest could provide critical insights into the larger drug trafficking network operating across multiple cities.
