In Hyderabad, the state government made a big change by appointing Dr. Jitender, a 1992 batch IPS official and state Principal Secretary to Home, as the new Director-General of Police (DGP) on Wednesday. The previous DGP, Ravi Gupta, has been moved to the role of Special Chief Secretary in the Home department. Additionally, 15 other IPS officers were transferred in the reshuffle.
Ravi Gupta became DGP in December 2023 after the suspension of the previous DGP, Anjani Kumar, by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Anjani Kumar was removed from his position for meeting with the then Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during the Assembly election count.
Dr. Jitender officially took charge as the new DGP on Wednesday evening at the police headquarters. He emphasized that his main focus would be on maintaining law and order and improving the quality of police services at the ground level. Addressing public grievances promptly is a priority for him, and he also highlighted the need for better traffic management in urban areas like Hyderabad.
In particular, Dr. Jitender mentioned the importance of ensuring smooth vehicle movement in the city and indicated that steps would be taken by the police to achieve this goal.
