Filmmaker Chilkuri Sushil Rao’s documentary, ‘Hero of the Sea,’ won an award at the 8th Indian World Film Festival-2024 in Hyderabad. The film received an ‘honourable jury mention’ for its portrayal of the Indian Navy’s efforts against piracy.
‘Hero of the Sea’ focuses on five Indian individuals who were held captive by pirates in Nigeria for 70 days in 2019. The documentary highlights their bravery and survival instincts during the ordeal.
The Indian World Film Festival had over 200 entries, with 83 selected for awards by an international jury panel. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures like D C Singh and Rambhul Singh.
Sushil Rao was also recognized for his previous works, including a documentary titled ‘Oscar Challagariga,’ which received a Special Festival Mention at the 12th Mumbai International Film Festival. He also received a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ for another short documentary at the 11th Noida International Film Festival-24.
