Bathukamma celebrations were held in the Wanaparthy District on Wednesday, following government orders. The event took place on the premises of the district collectorate.
Women from Self Help Groups, MEPMA (Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas), and women workers from the Women and Child Welfare Department created beautiful Bathukammas using tea tree flowers and brought them to the gathering.
The Bathukammas, decorated with tiroka flowers and yellow saffron, were offered special prayers. District Collector Adarsh Surabhi, along with Additional Collectors Sanchit Gangwar (Local Bodies) and Nagesh (Revenue), participated in the festivities. Women also performed traditional songs and games, adding to the lively atmosphere.
Speaking at the event, the District Collector highlighted that Bathukamma is an important part of Telangana’s culture and is now recognized globally. He mentioned that the festival brings people closer to nature and urged everyone to continue celebrating it as a way to honor Telangana’s rich traditions. Prizes were awarded to those who made the best Bathukammas, and he expressed hope that next year’s celebrations would be even grander. The Collector also extended his wishes to the people of the district for Bathukamma and Vijayadashami.
Many officials and staff, including District Rural Development Department PD Umadevi, DSCDO Nushita, District Welfare Officer Lakshmamma, and other staff from district departments, MEPMA, and revenue departments, participated in the celebrations. Several other female employees also took part in the event.
