The Jalpally municipality in Rangareddy district is facing a financial crisis and struggling to collect property taxes. A recent meeting with councilors did not result in any new development initiatives for the area, which is considered one of the most backwards and impoverished municipalities in the district.

During the meeting, issues like maintaining manholes, patching roads, sanitation, and preparing for upcoming festivals were discussed. Funds will be allocated for securing manhole caps and patching roads in certain areas. However, no major plans for development were proposed.

Due to a lack of funds, the municipality has only been able to collect 33 percent of the total tax demand for the financial year 2023-24. This is a decrease from the previous year’s collection rate of 43 percent. Residents are frustrated with the lack of basic amenities like water, sanitation, and proper infrastructure in many wards.
