Hyderabad: The Telangana government has assured private Inter and degree college managements that their demands will be addressed and their problems resolved gradually. This announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka after his discussions with Dr. Balakrishna Reddy, chairman of the Telangana Council of Higher Education, and members of the Private College Owners Association on Wednesday.
During the meeting, private college owners requested the government to release pending funds amounting to Rs 1,200 crore. These funds had been promised through tokens issued over the past 18 months but remain unpaid.
The Deputy Chief Minister acknowledged the challenges faced by private Inter and degree colleges. He assured the attendees that the government is aware of their issues and is committed to resolving them step by step.
State president of the Telangana Private Degree and PG College Managements Association (TPDMA), B. Suryanarayana Reddy, expressed the hardships faced by colleges due to pending payments. He highlighted that Rs 600 crore in dues remains unpaid, including Rs 450 crore for private colleges and Rs 150 crore for government institutions. He urged the Deputy Chief Minister to prioritize the release of the token amount to help colleges sustain their operations.
The private colleges have been struggling for the past four years, and their representatives are hopeful that the government will act swiftly to address their financial woes.
