Secunderabad Cantonment Board MLA Lasya Nandita passed away in a road accident, prompting the Election Commission to announce by-polls for the vacant seat. This has led to a surge in candidates vying for tickets from different political parties.

The Secunderabad Cantonment is one of the seven Assembly segments in the Malkajgiri Parliamentary constituency. Nandita won the previous election on the BRS ticket, defeating the BJP candidate N Sriganesh by 17,169 votes in 2023.

With the by-polls scheduled for May 13, potential candidates from parties like BRS, BJP, and Congress are gearing up for the competition. While no official candidates have been announced by party leaders, several senior members from BRS and Congress are actively seeking tickets.

Lasya Nivedita, Nandita’s elder sister, has expressed interest in contesting the by-poll. However, the BRS is yet to decide on their nominee. Other contenders include Manne Krishank and Gajjala Nagesh from BRS, as well as Arepally Parshuram from BJP. Former BJP leader Sriganesh may also pose a challenge to Nivedita. Additionally, Priyadarshini Medi from BSP and GV Vennela from Congress are also in the running for the ticket.
