Leaders of Ieeja Municipality in Gadwal are demanding the removal of Municipal Commissioner Golkonda Narsayya. They have asked Alampur MLA VM Abraham to choose between the corrupt officer and the poor people.

According to a press note released on Saturday, Ieeja Municipal Chairman Chinna Devanna, vice Chairman Mala Narshimhulu, and eight other councillors allege that the Municipal Commissioner is extremely corrupt. They claim that he only performs official work if he receives personal benefits.

The leaders have provided a list of corrupt practices by the municipal commissioner. They state that he sets rates for every official task. For instance, he charges Rs 15,000 for assigning a new house number and takes Rs 30,000 to 100,000 for assigning house numbers to vacant plots.

They also accuse the officer of recently granting permission for housing in assigned land without proper documents. Contractors who have completed municipal works are allegedly harassed by the commissioner and forced to pay bribes for their bills to be sanctioned. The leaders claim that only those contractors who bribe the commissioner are given work.

In response to these allegations, 14 council members, along with the chairman and vice chairman, have submitted a petition to MLA Abraham requesting the transfer of the corrupt commissioner. A resolution to transfer the commissioner was approved during a general body meeting on December 21, 2022, but the MLA has not taken action despite repeated requests.

The entire council is now urging MLA Abraham to consider the corrupt activities of Municipal Commissioner Golkonda Narsayya and make a decision keeping in mind the party, 20,000 voters, and the upcoming elections. They believe that the MLA must choose between the poor people and the commissioner who disregards rules and regulations and collects illegal money from them.

The leaders demanding the transfer of the municipal commissioner include Municipal Chairman Chinna Devanna, vice chairman Mala Narshimhulu, Jilekha Begum of the 2nd ward, Bhagya Lakshmi of the 7th ward, Sarala Pavan of the 8th ward, T Suvarna Anjaneyulu of the 1st ward, Yerukali Venkatesh of the 13th ward, U Shasi Kala of the 17th ward, U Vijaya Lakshmi of the 11th ward, M Hussain Bi of the 20th ward, and K Sri Ram of the 5th ward.
