The Yamuna River in Delhi is experiencing heavy rainfall, causing the water level to rise above the danger mark. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange alert’ for the city. The Central Water Commission has reported that the water level reached 206.24 meters, just slightly above the danger mark of 205.33 meters. Train services on the old Yamuna bridge have been temporarily stopped due to the situation.
As a result of the rising water level, there may be a significant evacuation of residents. Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has announced that the relocation process will begin once the water level exceeds 206 meters. He has assured the public that the government is prepared to handle any emergencies.
Due to the heavy rainfall and warnings from the Meteorological Department, schools in various parts of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have been closed. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has also issued a directive to close all MCD-affiliated schools on July 11.
The Delhi-NCR region has experienced flooding and disruptions in daily life due to the heavy rainfall. The IMD predicts six more days of rain, but the intensity is expected to gradually decrease.
