The monsoon is coming to Hyderabad in four or five days, but the city’s authorities are still working on the Strategic Nala Development Program (SNDP) in GHMC limits. This program is important because it helps prevent floods in the city during heavy rains. Unfortunately, the projects are not finished yet.
If the projects are not completed soon, the city will be at risk of flooding once again. Last year, many areas were flooded due to heavy rains, and this year could be the same if work is still delayed.
The SNDP is a project that costs Rs 958 crore. In the first phase of the project, 60 nalas (water channels) are being developed in areas that were flooded in 2020. 37 of these works are within the GHMC limits, while the others are in surrounding municipalities.
