    Hyderabad: Drug Control Administration Cracks Down on Illegal Medicines

    The Drug Control Administration (DCA) in Hyderabad booked 573 cases in 2024, a significant rise compared to just 53 cases in 2023. These cases were primarily related to violations of Maximum Retail Price (MRP), fake medicines, and the transport of illegal drugs from other states.

    On Wednesday, DCA Director-General Kamalasan Reddy presented the annual report to Health Minister C. Damodara Rajanarsimha at his residence. The minister acknowledged the department’s strengthened efforts to combat illegal drug activities in Telangana.

    During the meeting, the minister highlighted the DCA’s strict actions in addressing issues like counterfeit drugs, MRP violations, and interstate drug rackets. He expressed satisfaction with the 573 cases registered in 2024, which marked a significant improvement over the 56 cases recorded in 2023.

    The minister praised the DCA officials for their diligent work in cracking down on the manufacturing and supply of fake medicines. He urged them to continue identifying individuals and organizations involved in drug rackets and to take strict action against unlicensed medical and pharmaceutical companies.

    Additionally, the minister emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about purchasing medicines from reliable sources. Officials, including Joint Director Ramdan, Deputy Directors Rajawardhana Chari and P. Sarala, and Drug Inspectors Govinda Singh Nayak and Anil Reddy, were present during the report’s release.

    The DCA’s efforts reflect a firm commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people in Telangana by curbing illegal drug activities and promoting awareness.
