Hyderabad: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has found some medicines in the market making false claims on their labels. These labels say the medicines can treat kidney stones and fever.
The DCA says these claims break the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. This law stops certain drugs from being advertised for treating specific diseases. During a special check, Drugs Inspector Gandipet found Pathri Saaf capsules and syrup, an ayurvedic medicine made by Laborate Pharmaceuticals, Haryana. The labels falsely claimed they could treat kidney stones. The inspector seized the stocks during a raid at a medical shop in Narsingi.
In Khammam, another inspector found Ague Nil Syrup, a homoeopathic medicine made by Bhargava Phyto Labs, Rajasthan. This medicine falsely claimed it could treat fever. The inspector seized this medicine during a raid at a medical shop.
People who make false advertisements about drugs for treating certain diseases can be jailed for up to six months, fined, or both. Based on reliable information, DCA officials raided the clinic of a homeopathic practitioner named Chavan Vinod at Puranapul. They found a large stock of allopathic medicines without a proper drug license.
Wholesalers and dealers who supply medicines to unqualified people stocking and selling drugs without a license will face punishment under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The DCA has warned that strict action will be taken against such wholesalers and dealers.
