Telangana Authorities Raid Illegal Clinic in Uppal
The Telangana State Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted a raid on a healthcare facility in Beerappagadda, Uppal Khalsa village, Medchal–Malkajgiri district. The clinic, named Anjali Clinic, was found to be operated by an unqualified individual practicing medicine without proper credentials. During the raid, the DCA seized a variety of illegally stocked drugs intended for sale.
The clinic was run by Banothu Srinu, who lacked an MBBS qualification. Authorities confiscated 17 types of medicines valued at Rs 20,500. These included antibiotics, steroids, antifungal medications, and painkillers. Some of the drugs found included antibiotics like ceftriaxone and amoxicillin, as well as steroids such as dexamethasone.
The DCA warned about the dangers of unregulated drug sales by unqualified individuals. Misuse of antibiotics can lead to antimicrobial resistance, a global public health threat. Similarly, improper use of steroids can result in serious health issues, such as immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, and weakened muscles and bones.
The DCA urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activities. Complaints about illegal manufacturing or sale of medicines, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, can be reported by calling the toll-free number 1800-599-6969. This helpline is available from 10:30 am to 5 pm on all working days, according to DCA Director General V. B. Kamalsan Reddy.
