    Adilabad: District Collector Rajarshi Shah, along with trainee Collector Abigyan Malaviya, conducted a meeting on Tuesday at the Collectorate to discuss the National Tobacco Control Programme and tuberculosis (TB). Officials from various departments attended the meeting.

    During the discussion, District Collector Rajarshi Shah emphasized the importance of making all educational institutions in the district tobacco-free. He stressed the need to strictly enforce the new anti-tobacco laws and proposed the removal of tobacco product shops located within 100 yards of schools and colleges.

    The Collector urged government departments to work together to create a tobacco-free environment in educational institutions. He also highlighted the need to educate tobacco farmers about alternative crops and encourage them to transition to these options to reduce dependency on tobacco farming.

    Additionally, the Collector suggested that the Labour Commissioner take steps to provide alternative employment opportunities for beedi workers, ensuring their livelihoods are not affected while promoting a healthier community.
