    Gadwal: District Collector B. M Santhosh stressed the importance of giving loans to women self-help groups (SHGs) through the Mahila Shakti Scheme to boost economic growth. During a meeting on Friday at the Collector’s office, members of the District/Mandal Women’s Federation, welfare department officials, and bankers discussed how to implement the scheme.

    Collector Santhosh said that subsidized loans are being provided to SHGs to improve the financial situation of women in the district. The State Government has set a loan target of Rs. 54.04 crore for the district. The loans will focus on areas like school uniform stitching units, Me-Seva Centres, Mahila Shakti Canteens, event management, poultry and fish units, food processing, and agricultural services like renting out tractors and other equipment.

    The Collector emphasized the need for transparency in selecting beneficiaries. He asked officials from the relevant departments to carefully choose and forward the list of beneficiaries to the banks for quick loan approval. He also urged the departments to speed up the necessary procedures to achieve the scheme’s goals.

    Field-level responsibilities were highlighted, with the Collector instructing APMs and DPMs to work hard to meet the targets. The meeting included active participation from District Additional Collector and DRDO Narsinga Rao, LDM Ayyapu Reddy, Additional DRDO Narasimhulu, District Project Managers Vilas Rao and Rammurthy, APMs, DPMs, bank managers, and members of women’s associations. All were committed to making the Mahila Shakti Scheme a success.

    This initiative is a major step towards empowering women in the district. It aims to provide them with the financial support needed to engage in various economic activities and improve their livelihoods.
