Human Rights Day Event Highlights Ongoing Issues in Gadwal
An event was held in the Budaga Jangala Colony of Aiza Mandal Centre on Tuesday to mark International Human Rights Day. A total of 25 laborers participated in the gathering, which focused on raising awareness about human rights issues.
Speaking at the event, G. Narasimhulu emphasized the importance of December 10, 1948, the date when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. However, he also highlighted that, despite this milestone, serious challenges persist. Narasimhulu pointed out ongoing issues such as caste discrimination, violence against women, abductions, attacks on Dalits, sexual violence, and murders.
During the event, participants submitted a list of demands to government officials, requesting them to forward these to the Chief Minister. Their demands included a minimum daily wage of ₹850 for both men and women, land allocation for landless families, compensation for those displaced, and a monthly pension of ₹5,000 for rural women aged 55 and above, including single women.
Other demands included subsidized essential goods, maternity benefits, and the strict implementation of the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Acts to protect marginalized communities. Participants urged the government to act swiftly to address these critical issues.
