The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning about Cyclone Fangal, which is expected to cross the Bay of Bengal coast today. The cyclone is predicted to bring scattered rain, thunderstorms, and lightning to various districts in Telangana over the weekend.
Heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecasted for several districts today, including Mulugu, Bhadradri, Khammam, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Nalgonda, Warangal, and Hanmakonda. These conditions are expected to continue through Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
On Sunday and Monday, a broader range of districts in Telangana may also experience rain. Areas such as Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and Hyderabad are on alert. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for these regions, advising residents to stay cautious.
Cyclone Fangal is currently moving northwest at a speed of 15 km/h. It is expected to make landfall between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram along the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts later this afternoon. As it nears the coast, wind speeds could reach between 70 and 80 kilometers per hour.
The cyclone’s path is also likely to bring heavy to very heavy rain to the Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra regions. Some areas might experience localized downpours. Residents in these regions are encouraged to take necessary precautions to stay safe as the cyclone approaches.
